Aleksandra Maatsch is the principal investigator in project PANDEMO. She holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Politics at the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies, University of Wrocław. After completing her studies at the Central European University in Budapest (CEU), Aleksandra Maatsch acquired her PhD in political science from the University of Bremen in Germany (2011). She then worked at the Institute of Public Affairs (IPP-CSIC) in Madrid, at the University of Cambridge, the Max Planck Institute in Cologne and at the University of Cologne (interim Chair of European and Multilevel Politics). She specializes in comparative European politics and legislative studies. Her research has been published in various journals such as West European Politics, the Journal of Common Market Studies and the Journal of European Public Policy.

Edgars Eihmanis is the postdoctoral researcher in the project PANDEMO and an assistant professor (adiunkt) at the Chair is Social Sciences and Economics at the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies, University of Wrocław. Edgars is a political scientist working at the intersection of comparative political economy and public policy. He received master’s degrees in sociology and political science from the University of Amsterdam and a PhD degree in political science from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence.
As a doctoral student at the EUI, Edgars studied the politics of taxation in East and Central Europe (ECE), as shaped by political competition, business power and international organizations. Edgars’ second field of expertise regards EU socio-economic governance. Before joining the PANDEMO, Edgars was a post-doctoral fellow at the EUI, investigating ECE socio-economic responses to the pandemic. Edgars has participated in a number of international projects and his research has been published by leading academic outlets, such as Journal of European Public Policy or East European Politics and Societies.

Paweł Kolbusz is a PhD researcher at the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies, University of Wrocław. Paweł graduated from the University of Wrocław where he studied European Diplomacy (BA) and Interdisciplinary European Studies (MA). He has also studied at the Freie Universität Berlin where he focused on populism and Eastern Europe. After completing his studies, Paweł worked as an MEP assistant at the European Parliament. In his PhD dissertation Paweł investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on European economic governance. He speaks fluently Polish, English and German.
